Mud.. Mud.. Glorious Mud....
I did not post up my catch report last week as being a numpty, left my phone in the glove compartment of the car and was arsed if I was going to walk 1.5 miles back to the car to get it Anyway, the fishing was slow with just one 5lb thornback ray in the rain.
Yesterdays report - Bristol Channel
Lessons learnt, I made sure that I had my phone, plus a new mini tripod with flexi legs I got off Amazon to clip the mobile on to save me lugging my heavy old SLR around with me.
With the high pressure just starting to drop I thought it would be an ideal opportunity as this seems to encourage the fish to feed; especially conger. Being so early in the year, expectations of a sizable fish were minimal as these do not normally slide in until later.
.. And so my initial thoughts proved to be correct with the eels on the feed, lots of small one but the odd decent fish between 8 - 9lb. I did lose something that felt a bit bigger but it went through a line snag and after a minute or so of pulling my line was cut through ... Ouch... If you are fishing rocky marks please use a weak link on your rig... Sighs
3 other anglers fishing to my left were also kept busy with small conger and the odd half decent one.
The mark was still covered in slippery mud, though the ice crampon overshoes on my boots worked a treat.
Lessons learnt from this session.
Always test any new means of photography before using is at the coast. The mini flexi tripod was superb and held the mobile with no problem. It also came with a free blue tooth fob so I could use this to take the pics. HOWEVER. Always remember to look direct at the phone lens If not you will end up with photos of you doing an excellent impression of Jabba the Hun with face pressed down against ones chin..... Oh lordy lordy ..... I will add a pic of one of my attempts ...
Rigs used were my rough ground rigs, link to my eBay shop enclosed as I am about to update the Seaswest shop so it may be offline while I do it.
